    The Town of Gander has completed the first reading of the Policy Development and Amendments policy.  

    We invite the residents of Gander to review and provide feedback on this policy for consideration before the final reading on October 23, 2024.  Anyone wishing to submit feedback must do so in writing prior to October 16, 2024.

  • Road Closure – Memorial Drive East

    To accommodate construction, the East end of Memorial Drive, from Byrd Avenue to Cooper Boulevard, will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, October 3, 2024, between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

    Traffic will be diverted through Byrd Avenue.

  • Water Shut Off Notice - October 2, 2024 (Various Affected Areas)

    The Town of Gander will be conducting water flow studies resulting in temporary water shut-offs in the following areas:

    • Edinburgh Avenue
    • Blackwood Drive Area
    • Pinedo Road

    Date & Time:
    Tuesday, October 2, 2024 from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM

    During this time, water service will be interrupted for approximately 20 minutes in each area. Please plan accordingly.

    The Town of Gander is proud to highlight its role in forest health and protection. Gander is home to NL’s Provincial Forest Protection Centre and Air Services, including the Provincial Water Bomber Fleet, supported by skilled aircraft maintenance personnel and state-of-the-art facilities. These services are cornerstones of our current standing and continue to honor Gander’s history as an aerospace centre of excellence.
    Gander is also home to the Provincial Forest Firefighting Equipment Bank, Fire Hose Processing Centre, Insect Protection Unit, and other vital support services, ensuring effective prevention and emergency response. These efforts protect both residents and one of the region’s most treasured natural resources—its forests.
    The Town of Gander extends its heartfelt appreciation to the professional and dedicated staff who work tirelessly to maintain and protect forests.

  • Cooper Boulevard Roundabout Construction
    The Town of Gander is excited to announce that construction has begun for a new roundabout at the intersection of Cooper Boulevard and Memorial Drive.
    Why a Roundabout?
    This initiative comes in response to increased traffic on Cooper Boulevard, with funding allocated during the 2024 budget process. A comprehensive report by traffic engineers recommended the roundabout as the best solution to improve long-term safety at this busy intersection. The project is cost-shared through the provincial Multi-Year Capital Works funding program.
    Key Benefits:
    • Improved Safety: Roundabouts reduce the risk of accidents and promote safer driving.
    • Better Traffic Flow: They help minimize congestion and delays.
    • Formalized Pedestrian Crossings: Enhanced safety and visibility for pedestrians.
    We understand that the introduction of a roundabout in the community may cause some uncertainty. The Town is committed to providing ongoing information and educational resources to ensure a smooth transition.
