April 25, 2017 -Council applauds announcement of new services at JPMRHC

The Town of Gander is applauding the Provincial Government’s recent decision to expand health care services at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre (JMPRHC) in Gander. The Town also acknowledges the significant contributions of the Central Northeast Health Foundation toward the purchase of the new equipment.

The new expansion includes the establishment echocardiography services, which will be operational by the fall. The Provincial Government announced that it would be contributing “$200,000 in one-time funding for the equipment and $141,000 in annual funding for operations.” The announcement also stated that the funding will be combined with a $125,000 donation from the Central Northeast Health Foundation.

The new equipment will provide operators with an ultrasound of a patient’s heart, which is used to diagnose cardiovascular diseases, and can provide diagnostic information about a patient’s condition.

The JPMRHC provides care to thousands of people throughout Gander and the Central Region and the establishment of these echocardiography services will help boost Gander’s status as a hub for regional health care.
