Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Competition #TOG2017-014

The Town of Gander currently has an opening for a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Mechanic within the Public Works Department. 

Diagnoses, repair, overhaul, maintain and services vehicles and heavy equipment owned or operated by the municipality, ensuring continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes; test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications; read and understand technical service manuals; diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices; inspects machines at intervals, for worn or damaged parts according to maintenance schedule for each machine; writes reports indicating data pertaining to the nature and extent of repairs; repairs or replaces broken or worn parts using mechanics hand/power tools and welding equipment; installs accessories such as lights, back racks, radios and GPS for Town requirements as per OEM specifications; execute preventative maintenance program; disassembles engines and examines parts for defects and excessive wear replacing parts as required; verifies dimensions of parts (i.e. shafts, bearings, bushings, pins, gears, and rollers) by gauging or measuring with calibers or micrometers to ensure compliance with Manufacturers specifications; overhauls or replaces auxiliary equipment such as carburetors, generators, distributors; starters, pumps, and hydraulic systems; other duties as required.

Valid Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Mechanic's Certificate from the Provincial Department of Education or equivalent; Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience; Valid Class 3, 5, 8 and 9 driver’s license, driver’s abstract is required; 

Certificate of Conduct; Medical Certificate; Standard First Aid / CPR Certification; Suitable inventory of mechanic tools to be supplied by the mechanic for personal use

SALARY: Unionized position – $27.76  – 40 hours/week
